| In
November 2007, Griffith Company started the "Pervious
Pavement Parking Lot Project" for the City
of Manhattan Beach. The project includes removal
of asphalt concrete and replacement of pervious
concrete in multiple existing beachfront parking
lots in Manhattan Beach. Pervious concrete pavement
is a new and innovative product that that decreases
the amount of storm water and nuisance water
flowing into the storm drain system. The
porous concrete allows any runoff water to
seep into the ground rather than carrying
pollutant water into the ocean. An estimated
130,000 square feet of pervious concrete will
be placed at various parking lots. These
lots include those near the Upper Pier that serve
as shopping, restaurant, and beach parking for
the public, along with the El Porto Lot located
at 40th Street and Highland Avenue. The
project is anticipated to be complete by May
2008. |
